If you have anything to declare, including purchases and food, plants, animals and/or related products of any kind, inform the official. If you arrive by land, follow the signs to the first checkpoint – called the main inspection – where a border guard will check your ID and other travel documents and make your verbal statement. Visit U.S.-Canada Wait Times to access estimated wait times to cross the Canada-U.S. land border at specific locations. Instructions for completing the form can be found on the left. Be sure to read them carefully. If you are travelling with someone who lives at the same address as you, you may be on the same map. Up to 4 people from the same address can be on a single form. However, each traveler should always specify the amount they spent – you can`t combine your sums to save money! Make sure you are using the latest version of ArriveCAN. If you have already submitted your information using an older version of ArriveCan, you will need to download the latest version and resubmit your information.
If you have a communicable disease when you return to Canada, or if you have been in close contact with someone with a communicable disease outside the country, you must inform a border patrol officer or quarantine officer who can determine if you need a more thorough assessment. If you were ill during your trip or became ill when you returned to Canada, tell a Canadian doctor that you have been abroad, where you have been and what medical treatment or care you may have received (e.B medications, blood transfusions, injections, dental care or surgery). If you do not agree with the amount of duties and taxes you must pay, please ask to speak to the CBSA Superintendent of Duty. A consultation can often solve the problem quickly and free of charge. If you are still not satisfied, our officials can tell you how to file a formal appeal. If your goods have been seized and you wish to contest the prosecution, you may write a letter to the CBSA within 90 days of the date of seizure. Further information on the appeal procedure can be found on your attachment receipt form. If you show your valuables to a Border Patrol officer and indicate that you purchased or imported them legally into Canada, the officer will write the valuables and their serial numbers on a wallet card called BSF407, Identification of Items for Temporary Export. This form is only available at the port of entry. If you are asked about your goods when you return to Canada, show your card to the official. This will help you identify valuables that were in your possession before leaving the country. The agent can direct you to our secondary inspection area.
You can expect to be asked for detailed information about your travels and asked to present your luggage and goods for inspection. If you are reporting goods claimed under your 7-day exemption/CAN$800 that arrived in Canada before you or will arrive in Canada upon your return, ask the Border Patrol officer for a CBSA declaration BSF192, CBSA Personal Exemption. You will need your copy of this form to claim these goods. Otherwise, you may have to pay the regular duties and taxes on them. The form is only completed by a border guard at the CBSA port of entry. This form is not available online. It is really important to fill out these forms correctly. If you don`t, it will take you longer to clear customs and you`ll stop the rest of the queue. They also run the risk of being set aside for further inspection. To avoid delays, we will show you how to correctly fill out a customs form. Occasionally, you may undergo a more detailed inspection. In some cases, this simply means that you may need to fill out a form.
In other cases, the border guard will have to identify the goods you bring into the country or inspect your luggage. Do not use this form to list personal and household items that you bring with you or that you follow in Canada. You view your lists of these items separately to a customs officer. Use ArriveCAN to provide the mandatory travel information required to enter Canada. You can simplify the process by completing a form BSF186, Personal Effects Accounting Documents before your trip and giving it to the official upon arrival. This is a normal part of the travel process. Your cooperation is appreciated and helps us keep Canada, its economy and its people safe by reviewing your statement. If you arrive in Canada in a private vehicle such as a car, plane, boat or bus, you can usually make an oral statement. When you arrive at certain international airports, you can make an on-screen declaration using a main inspection kiosk.
Scan your travel document, take your photo and answer a few questions to complete your explanation. And if you use our eDeclaration mobile app, you can reduce your processing time at the kiosk by 50%. Whether you`re going home or visiting, you`ll go through the same simple process to enter Canada. There are three simple steps you need to follow: You take an old diamond ring with you on a trip outside of Canada. Outside of Canada, you decide to take the diamond from the old ring and put it in a new setting. This is not considered a repair or modification. It is considered to be a further manufacture or processing. When you return to Canada, the original ring, which is now just a stoneless metal frame, is considered a recurring asset because it has not been advanced in value. (In fact, it has lost value.) The new ring is considered a new item and must therefore be declared accordingly, even if it is part of the original ring (i.e. Diamond) that comes from Canada. The CBSA will treat the new ring like any other jewellery purchased outside the country, and the duties and taxes due will be calculated on the total value of the new ring, including the diamond exported from Canada. This rule applies unless you have already received cbsa approval for the new ring to be manufactured outside the country.
Always make sure you have enough money left to pay taxes and duties on your purchases. The amount you pay depends on how much you spent and what the Border Patrol officer will charge you. You can pay in cash, credit card and debit card. If you think you have to pay, be prepared. If you`re traveling by plane, it`s a good idea to fill out the card before you leave the plane. Adults who are not parents or guardians should have written permission from their parents or guardians to supervise children. The declaration of consent should include addresses and telephone numbers where parents or guardians can be reached. Once you have collected your baggage, head to the nearest CBSA checkpoint, where you will show the officer your declaration card and receipt if you have paid customs and taxes.
If you are directed to a kiosk, you may be asked a series of questions to determine your immigration status, the type of goods you are bringing, your duty-free border and your personal exemption applications. If you arrive at an airport without the terminals, you will receive a declaration card from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) before landing, which you will need to complete. If you are returning to Canada on a commercial aircraft, you will receive a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) declaration card before landing, which you will need to complete. These cards are also used in some places for travelers arriving by train, boat or bus. If you have any questions, you can always speak to a CBSA Superintendent. .
